Migas For One
Erva Art Corner, Lisbon
January 10th to April 2nd, 2025

Migas para Um, an exhibition by visual artist Madalena Pequito, presents a selection of works that mark a turning point in her personal and professional journey. In these recent pieces, Madalena delves into a deeply individual and introspective universe, where subjectivity intertwines with the inevitable force of everyday events.
This dialogue between the intimate and the collective is reflected in compositions that serve as both confessions of her inner states and explorations of universal themes within a society in flux. Her works are filled with fragments of memories shared with others—moments spent with people who have become witnesses and accomplices in her journey. These shared memories evoke the collective dimension of time, transforming into indelible traces of our shared existence.
Migas para Um is not merely an artistic exercise; it is also a response to the relentless demands for productivity and validation that define Madalena’s generation. This drive—both internal and external—permeates her work as a reflection of the contemporary zeitgeist, where individual fulfillment is often measured by an incessant cycle of output and self-justification.
Yet, the artist resists linearity and simplification. Instead, she weaves together layers of experiences, memories, and observations with an aesthetic gesture that is both delicate and assertive. The result is a body of work that simultaneously mirrors the times we live in and asserts the singularity of her creative vision.
With Migas para Um, Madalena Pequito invites us to reflect on the relationship between memory and identity, productivity and pause, solitude and connection, the personal and the collective. Above all, the exhibition is proposed as a space for contemplation and sharing—a place where the scattered fragments of past and present come together to form a meaningful and deeply human whole.
